Access to clean water and proper sanitation is a fundamental human right, yet many communities around the world still lack these basic necessities. In Nimba County, Liberia, Light for All Switzerland is proud to launch a new project aimed at improving the health and well-being of local residents by providing access to clean water and sanitation, beginning in Ziglee village with plans for expansion throughout the county.
Significant infrastructure challenges
Liberia remains one of the poorest countries globally, with Monrovia being the poorest capital. Outside of the capital, the country faces significant infrastructure challenges, including
- Lack of sewage
- Clean water
- Electricity
- Basic road facilities.
In Nimba County, home to over 500,000 people, contaminated water and poor sanitation contribute to the spread of diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid, and polio.
